Summer Reading Poster

In case you didn't get the message directly from OverDrive:

Dear Library Partner,

Summer is right around the corner and what better way to gear up for a vacation or day at the park, than with a downloadable audiobook or eBook! OverDrive has created a summer reading poster to help promote your 24/7 download library.

To download the poster, visit http://overdrive.com/files/SummerReadingPoster.pdf.
Please note: The poster may take a few minutes to download.

To add your library’s OverDrive URL to the poster, type it in the white bar at the bottom of the poster using Adobe Reader, or simply print and write it in.

To help get the word out, display this poster in your library and around your community. You can also make it available at events this summer that your library may be participating in. Please be sure to pass this along to your branch or member libraries.

If you’re interested in other ways to promote your download library, please feel free to call or email me anytime. You can also check out our online marketing kit: http://overdrive.com/products/dlr/partnerservices.marketingkit.asp.

Happy Promoting!

By the way -- the Listen Up! Collection owns each of the titles shown on the poster.

Links to the DCF & GMBA Award titles

The Listen Up! Vermont Selection Committee strives to purchase copies of every title on the DCF and GMBA Award lists available in downloadable format, and OverDrive has set up the Listen Up! Vermont site to segregate out those titles, in order to make it easier for your students, staff, and/or patrons to quickly access the titles.

Did you know that they also set up links directly to the award lists? For all of the years available for both awards, visit

and for the links to all of the years for the individual awards, visit

Be sure to let your Children's Librarians and staff know!

Downloadable Audio Book Article from 5/15/10 Library Journal

Don't miss this preview from the May 15, 2010 issue of Library Journal, "The Lowdown on Audio Downloads." It may help you gain a better perspective on the two services the Green Mountain Library Consortium offers through OverDrive and Recorded Books, or answer questions you have had (such as, for me, that Recorded Books, despite an extensive collection of iPod-compatible titles, still does not work with the main Mac browser, Safari).

Reports Training, this Wednesday, May 12 at 11am

Don't forget about the Reports Training for Listen Up! Vermont scheduled for this Wednesday, May 12, at 11am. The contact person for your library should have received an email with the login URL and access code -- please let me know ASAP at schase[at]stowelibrary.org if you need the email forwarded to you.

Sandisk Sansa Clip on Sale at Woot.com

For those of you offering or thinking about offering mp3 players for your patrons or students to borrow, woot.com has on sale today refurbished Sandisk Sansa Clip 2GB mp3 players for only $12.99 plus $5 shipping. Normally, these players retail for between $40 and $60. This player is listed as an OverDrive-compatible device.

The way Woot's daily deals work is that they are ONLY good for one day, or as long as supplies last that day. You'll need a credit card, and you will have to create a Woot user name. Woot is actually a fantastic place to go for incredibly amazing deals on technology -- you can follow their daily deals on Twitter or by RSS feed. I've seen things that would be great for your library, such as refurbished iPods and very inexpensive digital picture frames (great for the front desk), and amazing deals on DVD players, TVs, and more.

For more on Woot, see their FAQ.
