Recorded Books: Items Removed

As you know, our collection with Recorded Books One Click is a leased collection, which Recorded Books updates monthly with new titles. Periodically, Recorded Books also removes titles from the collection.

If you have added the MARC records for the One Click collection to your catalog, please remove the following three titles:

Dream Come True {Unabridged.} ISBN 9781407444406
Little Women {Unabridged.} ISBN 9781417572618
Merry Adventures of Robin Hood ISBN 9781433277931

PLEASE NOTE: the last title on the list, Merry Adventures of Robin Hood, is also available through Listen Up! Vermont. Be sure to delete your record for Recorded Books, and not Listen Up! Vermont.

The iPhone app for OverDrive is here!

For those of us with downloadable audio patrons with smart phones, OverDrive has finally released the app for the iPhone (link to iTunes store), joining the app for the Blackberry, Windows Mobile phones, and for Android phones, all of which are available for download on the OverDrive Media Console page.

If your patrons have an iPod Touch or an iPhone, completing the download process just got much easier. Patrons on any of these Internet-enabled phones will need to browse the Listen Up! Vermont website using the phone's browser; when they click on download in the website, the app will open on your phone to finish the process. This removes the step of having to download to your computer and transfer the files to your device.

iPod Touch and iPhone users will have to be sure to download only mp3 formatted titles; if you try to download a WMA title, the app will give a clear message that it cannot complete the process.

From the press release:

OverDrive’s free audiobook application for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. With OverDrive Media Console for iPhone, users can now wirelessly download MP3 audiobooks from OverDrive-powered library and retail websites to their Apple device. Audiobooks for over-the-air download are available from more than 10,000 libraries worldwide, as well as major retailers such as BarnesAndNoble.com, BooksOnBoard.com, Borders.com, and WHSmith.co.uk.

All of these apps are important to promote to your patrons, with signage at the desk, articles in your local paper or newsletter, on Facebook, your library's blog, etc. By far, the greatest number of technical issues revolve around the downloading and transferring of titles -- help your patrons have a much easier and more successful experience with OverDrive by letting them know about these apps.

Updating your Windows Media Player security

Often times, issues you are having with downloading audio from Listen Up! Vermont can be resolved by running the security upgrade on Windows Media Player. However, I had the experience of trying to do exactly that last week, and the Tools menu, where the command for the upgrade was, was nowhere to be found!

You can run the upgrade manually by visiting:

http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite

You must be using Internet Explorer to do so.
