If your patrons use overdrive app on their i-phone, i-pad or android phones, you may want to alert them of this cool new feature that just came out. It allows your patrons to search for only available titles on the Listen Up mobile site! Remember, if you have any questions regarding the use of these mobile apps, please check out the following post from January 19th:

Welcome to the Listen Up! Vermont blog for library staff, volunteers, and trustees, and interested users. This is a project of the Green Mountain Library Consortium (www.gmlc.wordpress.com), a group of libraries joining together to provide downloadable audiobooks and eBooks, a shared integrated library system (VOKAL-Koha), and the language-learning program, Mango, to users around Vermont. Looking for the Listen Up! Vermont site to download digital content? Visit www.listenupvermont.org.

STATEMENT REGARDING HARPER COLLINS
The Green Mountain Mountain Library Consortium (GMLC) works to provide Vermont libraries with access to downloadable audiobooks and downloadable eBooks in an efficient and cost effective way. Our current vendor, OverDrive, has been terrific to work with and has helped us to establish a valuable service of providing these formats to Vermonters.
A few weeks ago Overdrive informed their customers that Harper Collins, a publisher of many popular titles, has imposed a 26 checkout limit on purchased eBooks. Under this new policy, our access to these titles will “expire” after they have been checked out 26 times. In order to continue to provide our patrons with access, the titles that have expired would need to be re-purchased, which Harper Collins says will be at a lower price rate.
GMLC is disappointed in this change in pricing structure. While we understand Harper Collins’ desire to ensure their digital files are not owned “in perpetuity,” we feel that there are other models that could have been implemented that would serve the needs of libraries, their patrons, and Harper Collins. One such example would have been a model similar to the “always available” leased model used by Tantor and Blackstone for their audio titles.
GMLC, along with libraries across the state and country, are looking to Harper Collins to reconsider this recent change to its ebook purchasing structure. Our decision to continue to purchase materials from Harper Collins will hinge on the next steps taken by this publisher.

Spring Forward!
Recently on the New Hampshire downloable books listserv, the following message arrived:
"Expired titles are remaining (inactive) attached to
people's accounts not allowing them to retrieve their new holds (if
they've maxed out their three checkouts). Our patrons are complaining
that they are losing their holds".
The error message is as follows:
Error number: 0xC0001F42
Error message:Unable to open a recordset in the database
This may due to the fact that we recently moved our clocks forward ahead an hour. Please make sure to ask your patrons that the clocks on their device and their computers are both synced to the same time. Some other questions to ask:
Are you behind a restrictive firewall?
Do you have fairly high security settings on your computer?
Can you add our server to the list of sites your browser or
operating system trusts?
Can you right-click on URLLink.acsm, choose "Properties," and
unblock the file?
If this happens to one of your patrons, and none of the above questions seem to help, please send me the following information:
patron number, library name, patron email address,
desired title and FORMAT (MP3, WMA, or EPUB)
I would like to thank Bobbi Slossar of the NH state library for this information.

New Items to the Collection!
As your new coordinator I am still learning a TON and so I apologize for not getting this list out to you in the past. With the Harper Collins 26 checkout per e-book rule going into effect today, we here at GMLC have prepared for it the best we can by buying as much Harper Collins content as we possibly could before the new model went live. We will be having a meeting about this issue on Friday March 11 at 11am. Please email me: vtaudiobooks<@> gmail.com if you would like to attend this meeting!
Without any further ado- here are a list of the new Harper Collins items we have added to our collection. I would like to thank the hard work of Kip, Joan, Karen and Stephanie for purchasing these titles on such short notice! I will be posting other items we have purchased in the past couple months soon.

Overdrive eBooks & Harper Collins
Many of you heard about Overdrive’s memo and their statement that there is one publisher who is planning on limiting eBook checkouts. That publisher has turned out to be Harper Collins and naturally many libraries are questioning how this will affect their eBook purchasing and lending. Overdrive has put out a reaction on their blog which you can read here:

As eBooks are a new format for GMLC and we are still working out how to best build this collection I invite all the consortium members to please let the board know your feelings on this topic. Please feel free to comment on this post or send an email to vtaudiobooks gmail.com
