Goodbye Hunger Games, Hello Fifty Shades of Grey

  • Well, what do you know? Fifty Shades of Grey has taken over the top place from The Hunger Games for holds ratio within Listen Up! Vermont. I'll be adding additional copies today, but meanwhile please advise your patrons to hold tight and put their names on the list (average wait time is currently 13.75 days). And tell those Hunger Games aficionados the odds may be forever in their favor now! While there are currently still 76 holds on the Hunger Games audio, the ratio is much lower than for the 35 current holds on the Fifty Shades eBook (though I will be amending that, as I said).

  • I'll take this opportunity to explain, too, that long waiting lists for Nevada Barr's Hard Truth and High Country, Patricia Cornwell's Hornet's Nest, James Patterson's Don't Blink, and Nicholas Sparks's Safe Haven (all eBooks) are out of our control since we are unable to buy multiple copies of these from the publisher at this time. I will work to reduce the waiting periods on the latest from Badacci, Penny, and Winspear, however. And remember, we have 3,730 titles in the collection (2,111 audios and 1,619 eBooks), with 4,334 total copies in all formats--and constantly growing. There's something there for everyone!

  • Fun facts: In the month of April there were 6,227 total checkouts. Year-to-date so far: 28,744. Pretty impressive! Rutland, Brooks, Ilsley, and Essex Free have all already topped 1,000 checkouts this year.

  • Many thanks to our collection development team--Joan LaJoie (Richmond Free), Karen O'Donnell-Leach (St. Johnsbury Athenaeum), and Kip Roberts (Pierson Library, Shelburne)--for keeping us up-to-date and well-rounded. Title suggestions are always welcome. And a special thanks to Nancy Tusinski, who has retired from her duties as Maximum Access coordinator, to focus on her new position as Director of the Weathersfield proctor Library. Thanks, Nancy, and congratulations! (We're always happy to welcome new volunteers.)

Remember to check out the new look on our blog, too!

See you at VLA,
Judy Russell, Coordinator
